Plenty has been written about how humanity is now dangerously compromising Earth’s complex web of life, and the same applies to the reasons behind this. Suffice to say, these stem from our modern disconnection from the rest of nature, the Story of Separation we have lately been living by as countercultural intellectual Charles Eisenstein puts it; each of us essentially alone, competing in a random, uncaring universe. Along with increasing numbers of people I no longer subscribe to this story; instead we resonate with the ‘new and ancient’ Story of Interbeing, held sacred for aeons by indigenous cultures, for instance, and now experiencing a timely re-emergence globally.
In the emerging mythology of interconnection, ecology, and interbeing, we awaken to the understanding that the good of others, human and otherwise, is inseparable from our own well-being. Charles Eisenstein
New insights from science are meeting ancient spiritual truths, and the mantra ‘All is One’ is increasingly being recognised as a living, intelligent reality. Choosing to embody this connectivity can make life easier for all, and will sync us with the progressive nature of evolution wherein co-operation typically trumps competition as life strategy. Given the great debt that’s easy to forget – full lungs, food, fibre, fuel, and not least feel-good factors – the plant realm is an opportune focus for reconciling us with the web of life. Our gratitude and healing acts will likely be reflected back. As musician Jack Johnson once put it, the wisdom’s in the trees not the glass windows.
